‘Arezou’ to go to Hof Int’l Film Festival

Iran short film ‘Arezou’ had made way to the 53rd Hof International Film Festival in Germany.

Iran short film ‘Arezou’ had made way to the competition program of the 53rd edition of the Hof International Film Festival to be held in Germany.

Co-directed by Alireza Qasemi and Alireza Esfandiarnejad, ‘Arezou’ is an ARTE and SWR network coproduction which has recently finished post-production stage in Germany.

The plot summery of the short film comes as, “After the deterioration of her situation in Afghanistan, Arezou's mother flees to Germany to rejoin with her daughter who moved there years ago. However, when her application for asylum is rejected, they decide, based on the supposedly poor health of the mother, to appeal against the deportation.

On the day of the court-ordered medical checkup, Arezou injects her mother with a potent and dangerous drug designed to fool the medical tests. But while the plan seems to work, her mother's condition is deteriorating faster than expected. To save her without ruining their plan, Arezou must return to a safe place to inject the antidote to her mother, but the clock is ticking.”

‘Arezou’ makes the second collaboration between Qasemi and Esfandiarnejad after ‘Shortcut’.

The duo’s latest short film ‘Arezou’ had its first premiere at Cinémathèque Française on October 2, 2019.

Alireza Qasemi is an Iranian screenwriter and director. He is the president of the board of directors at the Globe International Silent Film Festival. His short film ‘Lunch Time’ received a nomination for the Short Film Palme d'Or at the 70th Annual Cannes Film Festival in 2017.

The Hof International Film Festival, founded in 1967, is one of the leading film festivals in Germany performing as a kick-off platform for an international career.

The festival is considered the festival for new discoveries.

The screening event is set for October 22-27, 2019.
